Handmade Cards Tutorial using Watercolour Brush Pens
You will need:
- Creative Husky Watercolour Brush Pens Set
- Sandwich size zip lock bag
- Creative Husky Black Dual Tip Brush Pen or other black fineliner pen & texta
Step 1 – Get prepared
First, you need to choose your watercolour brush pen colours. You can have as many colours as you like, however, I find 3 is a nice balance of colour variation. Get them out of the case, ready to use.
Next, fill your water blending brush with water and fold one sheet of your watercolour paper in half to form a card.
Have your ziplock bag handy, ready to add watercolour paint to!
Step 2 – Create the background
Place your ziplock bag over the top of your watercolour paper card. One colour at a time, add some ‘blobs’ of colour on the area covering the card. Make sure you leave room for the other two colours. Repeat for each colour you have chosen.
Don’t overlap the colours – leave a small gap between colours.
Put the ziplock bag with colour splotches to the side. Use your watercolour blending pen to ‘wet’ the paper. Squeeze the pen gently to form water at the end of the tip and spread the water across the paper. It should be quite wet.
Next, turn the ziplock bag over and place it, watercolour paint down, onto the card. Rub your finger over the bag, whilst holding it in place, to spread and blend the colours.
Remove the ziplock bag and leave the watercolour paper to dry. You can use a tissue or paper towel to wipe the ziplock bag clean so it can be used again.
Step 3 – Add the details
When the watercolour paper is dry, choose a stencil from your Watercolour Brush Pens Set to create a border with. Using your black Dual Tip Brush Pen or an artline pen, trace the border, then colour it in.
Next, choose which picture from the stencils you’d like to place in the centre of your card. Will you choose an elephant, a giraffe, a hippo or one of the other shapes on the stencils. Once you’ve decided, trace it with your black pen and colour it in using the brush tip of your dual tip pen or a black texta.
And that’s it! A simple, yet beautiful handmade gift card made using your Watercolour Brush Pens Set!
You can put anything you like on the front of your card – the watercolour effect makes a lovely background for just about anything…draw your own pictures, write special words or even stick dried flowers to it.
