Decorate a Ceramic Mug with Paint Pens
Decorating your own mug, cup or glassware is super fun and really easy to do with paint pens.
A hand-painted cup or mug makes a great gift for almost any occasion and its a great activity for both adults and kids. The designs can be as simple or complicated as you like.
Some perfect occasions for a DIY mug include:
- Mother's Day
- Father's Day
- Christmas themed glasses or mugs for the family Xmas table
- Easter decorations (Easter decorated mug filled with eggs)
- "You're a 🌟" mug for a child who achieves something at school
Here are the main steps you should follow to create a masterpiece on your favourite ceramic or glass item...
Step 1
Thoroughly clean the surface first using rubbing alcohol (eg Isoprol or Methylated Spirits)
Step 2
Paint your design using either our Medium Tip or Extra Fine Tip Paint pens. Let it air dry completely (24 hours).
Step 3
Baking the paint onto your item helps to 'cure' the paint and make it more permanent. When completely dry, place the object into a cold oven, set the oven to 180 Degrees Celcius. After 1 hour, turn the oven off and let the object cool completely in the oven.
Caring for you Item
Hand-wash only in cold or warm water, don't put it in the dishwasher.
Remember there is still a chance that the acrylic paint may scratch if you are particularly rough with it, so handle and clean the item with care!
